“There is mounting evidence that the increase of 1 to 4°C in core body temperature that occurs during fever is associated with improved survival and resolution of many infections” The fever response is a hallmark of infection and inflammatory disease and has been shaped through hundreds of millions of years of natural selection. Febrile temperatures are so closely linked to the inflammatory response that heat (calor) is one of the four cardinal signs of inflammation, along with pain (dolor), redness (rubor), and swelling (tumour), as described by Celsus in ~30 BC.1 The induction of fever in endothermic (warm-blooded) animals occurs at a high metabolic cost such that a 1°C rise in body temperature requires a 10–12.5% increase in metabolic rate.2 There is mounting evidence that the increase of 1 to 4°C in core body temperature that occurs during fever is associated with improved survival and resolution of many infections.

UNTESTED THEORY:
THAT COVID-19 may be a ‘cold virus’ that thrives better in cold temperature than warm temperature.
If so, it is possible that by:
1. Raising the temperature of a patient (saunas, steam baths, and the rest) an observing physician might determine whether the treatment is improving the patient’s resistance to the COVID-19 virus.
2. If so, by keeping the patient warmed and boiling a pot of water on a hot plate and covering the patient’s head with towel so that the patient can inhale steam may reduce the smptoms, but:
3. Not without the patient agreeing to constantly demand that their immune system identifies this virus, attacks and kills this virus, imagining bubbles cirulating in the area in which the symptoms are occurring.
That’s it.
If this treatment works we can end this epidemic immediately without the long term (months?) it might otherwise take to restore the collective ‘immune system’ to the planet.
Is it worth a try?
If it works, I am asking you not to connect me in any way with this idea as I am already too busy with other projects, have had my moment of fame and prefer to remain an anonymous source just following Barbara Jordan’s advice, “If one of us fails to participate (in governing the nation) all of us suffer”)
